Internet shopping seems to be a huge topic of discussion at the moment.  It’s rare to open a news paper or talk to some-one without a mention of how many bargains there are overseas right now - and that is very true.  The strong Australian dollar and ease of ordering and shipping is proving a boon to the consumer.  In the short term.

I’d like you to think however of the long term ramifications of internet shopping for your clothes.  A number of people I have spoken to say they try things on in the shops, then serch for them on line and buy them cheaper from overseas.  Thats great, except that very soon, those very shops where they tried them on will no longer exist. 

Do we really want to lose the experience of wandering into our favourite store, having the choice of garments to try on there and then, the ability to feel the fabrics and how they sit on our body and the delight in being able to wear something new the very same day?  How about the expert staff who help us find things we may not have chosen ourselves, yet now can’t live without?  Unfortunately, all this is currently in peril.

Clothing retailers in Australia - big and small - are feeling the pinch at the moment, and of course that has the "trickle down" effect on the entire economy - from importers to couriers to window cleaners.

I encourage you to continue shopping at the "bricks and mortor" stores and resist the on-line cheap deals - as they will end up being very expensive in the long run.

Wow, all the hard work has paid off and the City SAKS store is now open!  If you haven’t been to visit, do pop in and say Hi.  We are on level 1 (turn right at top of escalators) at Melbourne’s GPO - cnr Bourke & Elizabeth sts.

Melbourne’s weather has certainly been all over the place.  I do suggest that if you haven’t already, you get your summer things soon, as it will heat up - and of course the way fashion is, when it’s 40 degrees outside, the stores are full of winter clothes!.

I know it’s been a while, and so much has happened in SAKS’ world…...firstly and most excitingly, we are opening a new store in the GPO centre in Melbourne city.  Finally, my dream of SAKS in the CITY is about to come true. 

We are due to open on the 25th of October, but watch this space for further updates. 

Of course the Spring/Summer collections are now in store and they look fabulous.
